Why we won’t be out of Iraq anytime soon…

I have little desire in making this a political blog, but I wanted to tie together two interesting points that I’ve stumbled upon online. The first is a video of Republican Christopher Shays on C-Span in a moment of pure candor.

There has been a ton of pressure to bring the troops home and many Americans feel strongly about this subject. I would encourage everyone to think two or three steps ahead, like Shays does in this video, to what could possibly happen if we are no longer there…. and what this might lead to in terms of our future, our current addiction to oil, national security and empowering Iraq’s neighbors with the chance to possibly take over the worlds 2nd or 3rd largest supply of oil. Notice that I’ve not spoken a word about Terrorism. I believe the war in Iraq is due mostly to oil and not their link to WMD’s or their previous ability to aid and harbor terrorists.

Here is the world map of oil. The countries are represented in size by the amount of oil they are assumed to have. Please leave a comment with your thoughts on this subject. I am certainly not claiming to have all of the answers here.

  1. Interesting post. I came across this article over at digg: http://digg.com/politics/US_troop_MAY_remain_In_Iraq_Like_They_Have_In_South_Korea_for_50_Years

“US Troops May Remain in Iraq Like They Have in South Korea for 50 Years”

It has also been reported that we’re building 17 military bases there and an embassy…. sounds like we’re going to be there for the long haul. It’s interesting to observe the candidates and their sugar coated responses to questions about bringing the troops home.

    Keep up the great blog!

  2. Wow, Kendall, you brought up some things to think about. I hadn’t even considered some of this. But I admire you for thinking outside and coming up with your own information, not just listening to what the media tells us and wants us to believe. You made me really think about it and how pulling out now that we are there could be scary. So I agree we need to support the troops they probably have way more knowledge about this than any of us. I heard from someone who has a husband and daughter in the Army,
that because Bush kept talking about going in way before we did that there were WMD’s and they had time to put them on Semi’s and get them out of there. And they are in Syria. I am not saying this is a true or false statement, cause I don’t know for sure, but it is just something I heard, outside of the media.
But… if we know that, I wonder why we don’t go get them, unless they don’t know where in Syria they are now. But then again, you’d think we could track something like that.
But it’s interesting because if it’s about oil then the whole WMD is not of any interest.

  3. Sticky situation you/we got here, my friend. I have never been one to get involved with the political side of things but, still, I am a US citizen so, let me just say- I agree with you (and with the majority of the world) we should figure out the best way possible to get out of Iraq so that we can save our resources and focus on our own country, our own future and our own problems.

    Rock on, Kendall, rock on.

  4. I am also a true believer in the real motives that have sent us to Iraq and share your perspective fully. I also believe in the motto…you have made your bed, now you must lie in it. There are even more reasons we can’t pull out now then when we went in. Sadly, I realize the truth in it all and will always support our troops. Support the heads that sent them…well that is another story. Politics is such shaky ground just as religion is because people so firmly believe in something, they will in fact die for it. Leaving now, would be like demolishing a building and leaving during the construction of the new one. It will just become a waste land for someone else to move in take over and create even larger problems, not just for us but, world wide (note personal opinion inserted here). America is a business and big business at that. We are all employees of that business. When the company makes a bad decision we are all involved. We all have a voice and a say so, we just need to choose to use it effectively. Don’t sit in the lunch room complaining, do something. Empower yourself and make some differences abroad, we are all in the same boat. I am paddling my butt off what are you doing. Get involved locally with your politicians, make it a point to try to see what is going on in the world, vote and try to do it without “ennie meanie minnie moe”. I hear complaining all the time and I ask ” What will you do to help change it”. Some responses I can’t post, but most I get a blank stare and shrug of the shoulders. Sorry, if I am long winded on this, but I don’t knows and truth speculations don’t cut it anymore. We are approaching and election get your thinking caps on make a change. Just make sure you are have as much knowledge as you can when you make your decision.

Thanks Kendall great blog my friend.
